The year was 1810, and the people of Munich gathered to celebrate a royal wedding. Crown Prince Ludwig had married Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen, and the citizens were invited to join the festivities in the fields just outside the city gates. The celebrations were so grand, so filled with joy and community, that they became the foundation of a tradition that would span centuries. What began as a single day of horse races and feasting has grown into the world’s largest folk festival—a celebration of Bavarian culture, cuisine, music, and hospitality that draws millions of visitors to Munich each year.`

This October, Fairway brings that same spirit of celebration to Colombo.

For the first time, Sri Lanka will experience an Oktoberfest that goes beyond the ordinary. Fairway has joined forces with AHK Sri Lanka (the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Sri Lanka) to create the most authentic Oktoberfest the country has ever seen—and this is just the beginning. Our vision is to build the go-to Oktoberfest destination in South Asia, and we’re starting right here, in the heart of Colombo.

At the heart of the celebration is the Ozapft Band, a genuine Bavarian ensemble flown in directly from Europe as part of their exclusive Asia Oktoberfest tour. The band will be performing live, bringing the energetic sounds of traditional oompah music to Colombo, having already captivated audiences in Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, and Hanoi. Their presence adds international credibility and an unmistakable German flavour to the event, creating an atmosphere that transports guests straight to the legendary beer halls of Munich.

Complementing the music is a culinary experience like no other. Working alongside AHK Sri Lanka, Fairway is curating a menu of traditional German dishes that capture the true taste of Bavaria. From freshly baked pretzels and crispy schnitzels to flavorful sausages and hearty specialities, every dish is being crafted to offer guests an authentic journey through German cuisine. The food, like the music, is designed to immerse guests in the rich culinary heritage of Bavaria.

Beyond the food and music, guests can take part in classic Oktoberfest games unique to German celebrations. From stein-holding competitions that test strength and endurance to traditional Bavarian challenges that bring out the festive spirit in everyone, there will be plenty of opportunities for guests to engage, compete, and celebrate together.
